Single-Leg Steel Wire Ropes: Reliable Rigging for Lifting
Steel wire rope Grommets, with fibre or IWR core, are widely used on offshore field and on heavy lifting. The Grommet sling is made braiding 3 times the nominal diameter (e.g. a steel wire rope Grommet diameter 30 mm. is made braiding 3 times the steel wire rope diameter 10 mm.) and splicing the ropes’ ends to “tie” them together.
The big advantage of this type of slings is the possibility to reach very significant diameters manufacturing up to 180 mm., sizes that is not possible to reach with Sleeves’ swaging process and compared to the same soft eyes Slings’ diameters the Grommets’ WLL is impressively greater.
